In August of 2022, the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) Data was released showing the highest it has been for more than 20 years at 6.1% for the last annum. As CPI is a weighted average of a whole collection of items, with some increasing more than others, and this includes construction items have increased more than others.

Consumers may have noticed that quotes have gone up. And as seen in the graph above, input prices to construction have increased by 17.1% over the year, nearly 3 times as much as average inflation.
In addition, sections of the industry that include timber, joinery, and boards have increased the most- showing 24.2% over the year. This data is actually four (4) times as much as the record 6.1% inflation.
